About The Role
As a Smyths Buying Assistant, you will support the Buying team in delivering the product and financial plan for your department. In this role you will learn the fundamentals of buying and gain understanding of our pricing, range, supplier management and promotional strategies.Successful Buying Assistants can develop and progress to senior buying roles at Smyths. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates with a keen interest in the retail and toy industry, and who are results-driven and commercially focused.
Location: This role is located at our Head Office in Galway.

Responsibilities
Purchasing:
- Manage, create and update purchase orders in a timely and accurate fashion, including FOB orders.
- Amend replenishment figures for stock to reflect sales patterns.
- Update delivery dates in conjunction with the Logistics and Central Purchasing Departments and communicate to relevant stakeholders.
Inventory Management:
- Support Buyers and Head Buyers to ensure top-selling or promotional products are adequately stocked.
- Monitor stock levels of your product category online and in store through planning, forecasting and replenishment.
Pricing & Promotions:
- Input price changes and promotions into the system.
- Monitor competitors' pricing and create promotional bundles and offers.
- Set up promotions and prepare POS materials for in-store offers.
Website Management:
- Review web scripts, update release dates, preorder quantities, and pricing for products.
- Ensure all new items are visible online before stock lands
- Optimise search terms with relevant keywords for each product and product category.
Content Creation:
- Support catalogue production.
- Generate new articles on the system, ensure timely creation of new game announcements, maintain accurate and up-to-date information online.
- Create POS materials for in-store display.
Marketing:
- Review email campaigns, pricing, and online banners.
- Create and send promotional claims to accounts and suppliers.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Communicate with customer service to resolve customer queries promptly.
- Liaise with suppliers on a regular basis, build and maintain relationships with suppliers and your wider team.
The Ideal Candidate
- Strong organisational and administrative skills – attention to detail is crucial.
- Proficient in full Microsoft Office package – especially Excel & Google Sheets.
- Ability to multitask and work well to meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal, written, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be highly numerate and process focused.
- SAP experience is an advantage.
